Dug a bunch of pipe stems and bowls today and had two bowl fragments with the same impression stamp. Could not find anything on line so maybe someone out there knows who and when these pipes were made. Thanks in advance, vn.
Lower bowl and stem fragment, spurred, circularstamp of a windmill on bowl facing smoker, thestem has multiple vertical bands; Dutch, nineteenthcentury;
Agree it's Dutch and it's a deep impressed stamp most usually typical for 19th Century.
The Dutch pipemaking industry was centred on Gouda and these makers are reported as having used Windmill stamps (the pictorial icon is for illustrative purposes only, and not necessarily the exact mark used):
Awesome Information, definitely a match design, there is some detail on the base I will get a pic up later tonight. You all got me off to a good start. I have dug lots of stems and bowls here and not one has had a maker mark of any kind until these bowls popped out. Thanks again!
