Cleaning bronze or brass artifact???

I know the rule in the coin world (no!) but what about artifacts. I have a badge/medal I expect to be from around mid 1700's (see my other post) it is definitely bronze or brass. Should I clean it or leave it as is? it is mostly clean from calcification, but it is black.

put the medal in a glass of citric acid,it willtake off the scale and clean it.

Most of the junk I find I run through the dishwasher a few times. This removes alor of gunk.

? ?? Why wouldn't you applied it to an early relic!?

Especially BRASS or BRONZE. the Patina Is what makes it Appealing. I only clean IRON ARTIFACTS
