cleaning lincoln cents

I know this is a very touchy subject. But I was wondering if anyone has ever cleaned and then used the countless toning agents out there. Just needing some input. Thanks.

I'd wager that most people haven't. The only thing I have "cleaned" off of a coin is PVC residue from holders. For that I used Acetone and a cotton ball. Not sure that I would use it on copper though.

I 100% advise against artificial toning agents. Not only does it have a good chance of ruining the coin but it also basically amounts to fraud, which is obviously frowned upon.

I use salt and vinegar followed with a vicious rub down with a pencil eraser.

Seriously though, I do that with really gunky gross common date wheats and memorials and it doesn't look too bad. I just use them in my cheap coin folders.

If I was filling a Dansco or wanting them graded or whatever I wouldn't do that.

I'm not that dumb. I just like a shiny penny.
