cleaning river find's?

I recently was fortunate to come across a cw breast plate found in a river,it"s got a little "green" on it.Is this permanent or can I get rid of it.Any suggestion's?

cleaning will reduce alot of value, but if you can chip it of with a sharpened piece of plastic i dont think that counts...but dont scrub it

personally, i think that green patina is beautifull but to each his own! im sure someone around here can help with a cleaning technique.

I don't know what the metal composition is of this type of thing but if it's bronze then the green might be a problem.

There's such a thing as ?bronze disease.??

Does the green rub off as a sort of powdery light green dust? If it does, it?s most likely bronze disease.

If you suspect? bronze disease, check with ancient coin collectors, they can tell you how to get rid of it.

Bronze disease left unattended can destroy many old relics.
