Had a few hours to go out today for the first time on a new permission and managed to pull out this plate . Attachment hooks are missing and whatever may have been on the front as I believe was the purpose of the holes through the plate , attachment of something on the front. . Great seeing it come out!! First one of these I’ve ever dug. If anyone has any info on this type of plate (date , what may have been attached to the front) please let me know . Thanks!

Nice find! Those plates were used by pre war Virginia militia and maybe others too.

I saw one almost exactly like that one dug from an 1840-50s outhouse. It had a small “C” inscribed in the center. You’ve got a good find.
