Bigger is not always deeper depending on the minerals in the soil. Since you have lots of area to hunt I would try a larger coil and see it you really do get more depth. Since Tesoro stock coils aren't DD coils you will need to overlap about 50% on each swing for max coverage. They do offer Widescan coils which are really DD's.

Good Luck.

If I'm using a Cortes, what size coil should I use to get the deepest targets? I will be hunting sugar cane fields this fall, there is no trash and I will be searching for coins and bullets. I assume the bigger the coil the deeper?

Hi,
As sandman said, bigger doesn't always mean deeper. However, a bigger coil will tend to find bigger targets deeper, according the the engineer here at Tesoro. There is one size larger concentric coil than the one that your machine came with....

FYI: There is also a wide scan coil (aka "DD") that will help cover more ground, and is more stable in mineralized ground, but you would lose depth.

Good luck on your hunt!

Regards,
Casey

Tesoro makes DD coils for ALL of there detectors except for their water machines.

The coil you need is the Web coil

In this same vein, is/are there other companies that make coils that fit tesoro detectors? Coiltek and Sun Ray make them for Whites and Minelab, what about us Tesoro users?!
