I have an ATpro, with 2 different coils..The small 5x7, and the larger Factory coil..I have always used the smaller coil on it with no problems..So I put the larger one on just cuz I keep reading about the depth gain..Here's the thing, if I tap the coil on the ground (not real hard) the detector will beep..My smaller coil does not do this, and neither do any of the 3 coils I have for my Ace 250..Is this normal??? Its not a problem or anything, but it does bug me..Also this larger coil seems to false a lot more often than the smaller one..I use a sniper on my Ace almost exclusively, so I dont have alot of experience with larger coils, and their behavior...I remember my Old trusty Whites 5500 series 3 would do this, but I thought with the modern coils we have this was a thing of the past...Thanks for any replies on this...Maybe I just need more practice, but it seems a bit harder to pinpoint also...

Still curious guys if this is common....

Did you do a reset on the machine when you switched coils? Both my coils will false if they are reading something then get bumped on the pro. Always been that way.

Yes, I did..Ok, thanks alot..Its not really a problem, just something I had not seen before on the Garretts...

depending on saenstitivity and ground conditions, this does happen on Garretts.

I think what you are picking up from a coil bump is a the slight flexing of the shaft. It's a side effect of the extra depth ;) and actually not that uncommon. All you can really do is make sure your ground balance is set right, and maybe turn down your sensitivity a bit.

Every detector I've owned would do that if I hit a rock, tree, tall clump of grass, or clip the ground mid swing while trying to get my coil as close to the ground as possible.

Hmm, ok Thanks Guys...

I have the Pro with the small DD coil on and mine will do the same thing. When I hit a tree root or stump in the water it’ll beep when it gets bumped. Or when going in and out of water it’ll beep. It’s Normal.

I never had my small coil do that, but the big one sure does..Thanks

galli, its a very common issue with large and larger coils, the coil represents an antenna, one sending one receiving, (large coil = large antenna) when you bump them or shock them (over swing then pull back too hard) the bump or disturbance is picked up after being overloaded or over amplified. All detectors can have this issue.
Good luck!
