One of the things about this hobby that gets me is these companies that make aftermarket coils can not provide any type of scientific proof that their coils are any better than stock. I am a licensed amateur radio operator and have bought antennas for years that the companies provide gain figures. With coils for metal detectors it is nothing more than witch doctor voodoo where they say " buy our coils , they are better ! " but they do not provide any proof Help me understand.

I would say that is true for everyone except the Coil-Tek coils simply because they work with Minelab in design.

I think the biggest problem with most aftermarket coils is quality control. Some people seem to get great results while others throw them in the trash.

Maybe it's because the best coil for your detector comes with the detector. Don't you think the manufacturer researches that data before they even go into production? And don't you think that he wants the best results from his detector? I have used the stock coils with my detectors since the 70s and found just about everything that can be found.
Yes there are exceptions like blanket coils for PI units, but they are rare.
When you change your coil, you are trading a small gain for a big loss.
Hay, just my opinion, Frank...
