Here's my coin totals for this season (about 7 weeks worth). My nickel percentage has doubled this year and I've actually found more of them than quarters. I rarely dig zincs unless there just isn't anything else to dig, so the majority of those pennies are pre-1983 and about a dozen wheats.

I was very green last year though, so honing in on nickels came rather late in the season. I'm finding much more jewelry too as you might expect. Just wondering how my percentages measure up to yours (for those keeping track).

Coin Found Total %
Dollars 1 $1.00 0.1%
Halfs 1 $0.50 0.1%
Quarters 84 $21.00 8.9%
Dimes 184 $18.40 19.5%
Nickels 94 $4.70 9.9%
Pennies 581 $5.81 61.5%
------------------------------------
TOTAL 945 $51.41

Looks like you are doing very well so far!! I have not been out in the last two weeks. It has been raining here so much.
Congrats.

Mine are a lot different...
I find only $1.00 coins and halfs...lol
just kidding.

Seriously, you are doing some awesome digging there,
quite a pile of cash you have, I am really impressed.
You are going to get to Dave and Bobbie's level soon.
I think they found $500.00 in change last year or something.

My coffee can is full so off to coinstar I go this weekend
so I'll see if mine are similar.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks... my hunting options are limited in the Anchorage area. It's a city of about 250,000 people (Alaska's largest city). The nearest big town is Fairbanks and that's about 7 hours away.

And we probably have more metal detector owners per capita than most cities. Glad most of them are after nuggets. ;D

Hey Gadget, how's the nugget count, LOL! I'd be hitting some of those old mines and tailing piles, heck with the clad. HH, Mike

Don't have my numbers in front of me but of the 4000+ coins my son and I have found in the last year or so about 50% have been pennies. We are focusing more on older sites so our numbers on pennies are inching up toward 60% I imagine. We have found about 300-400 wheat pennies and our wheat penny to silver coin ratio is about 7 to 1.

I keep track of every coin I find and I plan to post my meager totals next january. I also keep track of my battery time for my detector and pin pointer. I even keep track of my expensives related to detecting and any coins I turn in for cash or sell [haven't found anything to sell yet]. Currently after buying the detector and the assessaries I am only about $700 in the hole [pun intended].
