i dragged out the rock tumbler to try it on dug coins and was suprised with the results. i did notice that it worked a whole lot better when it was at least 1/3 filled with coins. less than that seemed to hurt the coins more. more wear on edges and more impact marks.

this got me thinking.. what if the tumbler is filled with a softer media than what your tumbling. instead of using aquarium rock or sand, hows about say small aluminum nuts and bolts along with your choice of cleaning fluid (soap and water, etc)

anybody tried something like this?

i'm thinking it wouldnt be so hard on the coins yet still be enough to get the crud off.

I read somewhere that you can use crushed walnut shells.

Sorry I don't know the rest of the details , but it might be worth
checking into.
