Just a little FYI
For those of you stuffing CoinStar shoots (yes it really happens) please don't do that, 1) all machines have a camera on them so the store knows who you are, and will be watching for you, and will prosecute you on behalf of CoinStar, for theft of a consumers money, because you are robbing those consumers the opportunity to take their own coins, that is theft.
2) that action is illegal in all states.

By doing so you are giving people in our hobby a bad reputation.
Please just enjoy the hobby for what it is, just fun free money.

How ever money collected from the rejection tray is not illegal in all states as the consumer is prompted to take the coins if they want them. So if left then that's by choice.
I bring this up because I recently found a sock ball stuffed in a coinstar. Please don't give our hobby a bad reputation enjoy it for what it is.
Just saying!

Let me see if I understand this. Someone stuffs something up the reject chute to stop rejected coins from falling into the chute, then comes back, pulls the block out, rejected coins fall into the chute, and the AH scoops them out. There is a special place for for people like that.

I found a small thin sponge on the bottom of a reject tray once…. I guess it was to muffle the noise of the coins falling. I reckon it was a store employee like a cashier or bagger who could pounce after the customer left.
Not saying I wasn’t impressed with their resourcefulness.

Dang - never gave that (stuffing) a thought. Maybe that is what's happening to CoinStar I check that has been empty for the past 6 months or so. Thanks for the heads up.

This is someone going to extra lengths for 1.50 in change lol. They could walk by a drive through and pick up more probably. I guess some people need it more than others. I personally roll mine and turn it into the bank. I like searching my coins and rolling them. $ for $ this way.

That is some crazy stuff...pretty great lengths some will go to...I have not run into that yet...should we be checking for stuffed sock balls now? :).

The only Coinstar I know of sits in a Fred Meyer in Burlington (25 mi. from home). Unfortunately it is located right next to the service desk, and is under constant watch. I have no doubt the counter people there are snatching up every left behind reject coin just seconds after the customer leaves.

Agreed. I've witnessed it.
