Why would a coinstar machine kick back a silver dime? it's the same size as a regular dime and non magnetic.. ?

The machines are calibrated to a specific weight and metal content for each denomination so as they go through the split second convayor that weighs and scans the if they are not at standards 1980s forward for the most part the machines tend to reject them. And even some of the newer coins get rejected.

I believe my toys polishes all or most found silver as well as other neat old coins.

For the most part yes I do polish my silvers unless there is a specific collector value significantly above the melt value, but if they are just common silvers their collector value is not more the the melt value or very little above melt value at best, except a rare couple of silver coins or error coins . But yes I check them carefully first before polishing them. As to other neat old coins it depends on what they are and yes some times I do, if they are damaged or heavily worn I do sometimes polish those, and they are usually ones I have many of anyway, as well as some forign coins.
