hey everyone
we got out today on the coldest day in a while. the wind chill was brutal but it still didn't stop a few looney detectorists. we went back to the spot where last week i found a 1785 conn. copper and on new years eve i found two half cents 1794 and 1804. zoyboy, doyboy and uncle zeus hit the spot with our cold weather gear on.it wasn't 5 minutes into it when i got high quarter on my xl-pro. 4 and a half inches of cold chisel and hammer later out pops a draped bust large cent.i can't read the date but otherwise it looks great.it took about 20 minutes to coax it out of its hole. not 5feet from that one i got half dollar signal, same depth. 20 minutes later 1794 liberty cap large cent. i damaged the corner with the chisel but otherwise it's in great shape. i only dug three holes but found two great coins. they are easily my best large cents of my 18 years of detecting.i hope some of you are having similar luck.

I am impressed, Zeus! I'm impressed with the great finds, but I also am impressed with your bravery in going out in such weather. Anytime it gets below 45 degrees here in Georgia I leave my detector (s) in the closet. lol

Thanks for the post and the photos.

Ron

Sweet finds. I would be braving the cold too if I suspected there were coins like that lurking. ;D

Never actually had to chisel out a coin....

great job -- no such thing as winter!!

sweeeeet finds there !!!! i'm on another forum and they think i'm crazy for going out with hammer and chisel !! hey , what else ya gonna do with time off.... there were two i should have marked and left

I almost crapped myself when I saw the pics. If you don't mind me asking, which state are you in?

When I saw the title of your post I couldn't help but chuckle, then after seeing what you found I thought, "Now that's dedication!"

Are you sure they just didn't voluntarily give themselves up to get out of the cold? :D

Nice job,

Nat

I was also going to ask what state you're hunting in, those coins are just not found in my neck o' the woods.

Congrats Zeus.

We live in Penn-sa-vain-ya.
Around NEPA? Heyna? Are you up the line or down the line?

We are split at the radius of the state. Halfway to Philly, but nearer to Pittsburgh.

Those are truly some wonderful finds, ometimes it seems that the extra effort really pays off in this hobby. I wasnt aware that you guys are still so deep in winters icy grip, its turned pretty mild around my area. I have roofed a lot of Burger Kings across PA,I recall doing one in New Bethlehem, right on the Red River I believe it was. It was right across the street from the Goober Peanut Butter factory, the only one in the nation or so I gather. We were roofing on that one til like 2AM and the sherrif came by to check up on us and gave us the story about the Goober plant, trucks rolling in and out of there 24/7,we had no idea what the place was only that they were very busy. Some really beautiful country you guys have out there and bursting with history,HH...Shoot
