Collectors, what are your favorite coins ?

My favorite coins..... hmmm, so many choices. I would have to say the 1808 Half Dollar that my Uncle Bill gave me when I was a kid.

Interesting that you got an 1808 half from your uncle. I got one from my father in law...

I was a huge Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge fan as a kid (still am), so I'd have to say my most treasured coins are an 1875 Seated Liberty (Scrooge's 'Number One Dime'), and a 1916 Standing Liberty quarter (in one comic, Scrooge hoarded every single 1916 produced, but it backfired on him surprisingly lol).

Oh, and my 1966 Irish Padraig Pearse 10 shilling. Hopefully the Irish Mint produces another good one in 2016 for the 100th anniversary of the Easter Uprising. Doubtful though.

It comes down to 2 for me. One is a 1787 Connecticut copper M.33.38-Z.6. I love the coin for a number of reasons, it's rare with probably less than 30 known, it's one of the finest of the 30 and it has numerous die breaks that are interesting to look at. The other coin is a black dog ugly 1787 Connecticut M.1.1-vv. Probably only about a dozen known. This is the original discovery coin that Dr. Thomas Hall found about 1890 when he was getting ready to publish his book on Connecticut coppers. The manuscript for the book is in the Connecticut State Library and in it he talks about spending hours picking the dirt out of the devices and legends. It's the Redbook pictured type coin for the Small Head CT, but the reverse on this one has INDE ET LIB instead of ETLIB INDE.

I think the coin I want to find the most is a Morgan Dollar. Preferably from the late 1880's to the early 1900's. I know there are bigger ones to shoot for but something about this one has me fond of it.

Standing Liberty Quarters for me. The SLQ is a work of art.

Thanks for sharing two amazing coins. I really enjoyed the history and care surrounding both.

My favorite coin(s) are old copper large cents (1793 – 1856). I especially like those Cap Liberty large cents!

1834 EF Capped Bust Half Dollar.
On Saturday I'm getting a PCGS MS-64 1887 Morgan dollar.

The funny thing is that the only errors that I own were found coin roll hunting so now I have an error collection lol.
