Colleges And Universities

What is the general thinking about the legality of metal detecting colleges and universities, aside from asking permission. Asking anybody for permissions can get an automatic no. Thanks

I would say that without permission you are trespassing. They are private property.

If it is a "state" university it is still limited access. Like a military base.

We live in times where strangers wandering around the grounds are looked on suspiciously by default. And most, if not all, have security forces.

Strangely a cop who came to a public elementary school I was hunting because of s call about an older gentleman wandering around the school, suggested I would probably do better at a college. First thing the cops quickly said was , ?What you are doing here is not illegal,? We have a county community college and a Mormon based college here also. One logically tax paid the other religious. Funny how the police suggested a college

I detect university and college athletic fields, whenever I come to them (barring some sign to the contrary, or barring some reason why the public simply isn't allowed to be there for some-reason). And .... no one's ever said squat to me. I guess I haven't asked enough questions

and I rather suspect you won't start asking questions now.

I’d say it’s easier to take a chance and deal with a security confrontation if it comes, than to try to get permission these days. Who wants to be the one to authorize it? Wearing a yellow hard hat and vest could throw off questions for years.
