Though not related to shipwrecks per se, this news report will have a bearing on these subjects as the governments decide what to do. A Colombian judge has ordered the Ministry of Foreign Relations to proceed in the diplomatic process of reclaiming and repatriating 122 pre-Colombian pieces belonging to the Quimbayan culture collection that was given to the Queen in 1892 by the President. This promises to be an interesting case to follow closely.

Now, maybe France will be asking for the Statue of Liberty back from the USA...

Greece wants a variety of items back from the British Museum.

And Egypt wants the Rosetta Stone back from the Brits.

Maybe Israel should ask for some of the pyramids that their ancestors built. :D

And the Indians want Manhattan Island back.

And we Italian wants to be reimbursed for almost 2.000 years of use of words of Latin etymology. Cheers :D ;D :hello2: :headbang: :laughing9:

The items were stolen from the Colombians. Same with most other antiquities such as Egypt, with the difference being the English didn't kill all the Egyptians and give them the clap.

The statue of Liberty was a gift.

You'd better check your facts. Those items were a gift from the then Colombian president Carlos Holguín to the then Queen of Spain, María Cristina de Habsburgo.

Also, that myth about the "clap"... it's a myth.

There is an old saying...... :icon_farao:

You can't blame them for asking......... :lurk: :lurk:

Bureaucrats have their "good old boy networks"....

Look at the bull crap coming out of the state department and DOJ ! :BangHead: :mblah05:

billinstuart old mate ! You have a thing about the clap, I suggest you see a doctor !
You need to read some real history on the English, The Aboriginals in Australia didn't get a chance of getting the clap they
shot them first !

Regarding the Pyramids:

I think 400 years of back pay PLUS Relocation expenses. (oops God did reimburse them)

Personally, I think the descendents of the victims of the Inquistions should be entitled to reclaim all ancestral property and other valuables or the monetary equivalent of the present day value.

Gosh, what a world we live in huh ! Dog eat dog or what ?

Just think...the ones who rule the courts are placed in office by the ones who rule the land, and the ones who rule the land, make the laws that will be considered in court, and guess which side we're on ?! :(

On another note, since Spain was under "Catholic Rule" (no offense to Catholics who are true to God), but consider world history and domination if all those Treasure Fleets had made it back. Adding insult to injury, many of the victims of the Inquistion took to the high seas to amass Treasure for who ?
(their oppressors) duh...( I think I would have kept it a one way trip myself, or took a detour)

So in one disaster 30 ships carrying over 6 tons of gold each went down in the same sea at the same time ! Wow what a haul that would have been.

Okay, so can we say Treasure is "political" rather than a mere fun pasttime that sometimes proves to yield items of value ?

Since when did our hobby become so serious ?

Who started all these Treasure laws anyway ?

The Moabite Stone (google it) was found in 1868 twenty miles east of the Dead Sea by a German missionary, F.A. Klein. While he was negotiating with the govt to transfer it to Germany, the local Arabs broke it up with sledge hammers and sold the pieces! Klein recovered the pieces and it is now in the Louvre Museum in Paris. If it had not been for the Western infulence, the ignorant Arabs would loose this valuable piece of history forever! The Moabite Stone proves the existence of Israel and the house of David in 830BC.

As far as I Know the arabs didnt' use sledgehammer but they warm the stone in fire and they poured cold water on it.
But never mind, he point is: stone has broken.
