BUT... not exactly what I was looking or hoping for.
went out to one spot early Mon. morn - every where I went - foot prints
as far as I know - THEY don't have permission to hunt there. They look like
they were there on Sunday. There were at least 2 sets - I think possibly 3 sets
of foot prints - some were older but most were from Sunday. I ended up hitting between
their foot prints - I was surprised they missed a nice ox nut that was down about a foot
and went off pretty high - I thought I might have a coin it was so good of a signal.
went down between 2 sets and got a nice signal in the toe of one guys boot print -
got nice coin signal was hoping for something in the 1800s or earlier - turned out to be a Merc dime.
walked 5 feet and got another 88-86 signal sounded real good was shocked when I dug down and saw
rim of silver coin - again hoping for maybe seated - 1943 Washington :tongue3:
moved to another spot - once again foot prints here and there and few dig spots visible - once again
as far as I know farmer has only given permission to myself and a friend and he has been busy with marriage plans
walked around for awhile - only thing to speak of was folded copper - either a dandy button or a coin - its
kinda heavy for a button :dontknow: - trying to carefully pry open still - moved to one more spot before sunset
noticed there was a small maybe half acre that ive never been able to get into.
made one pass - got another beautiful 86-88 repeating signal - got it out of the hole - got pinpointer out -
grab a handful of dirt that had target in it - started brushing the dirt away and see a caked silver disc - got
excited - gave it a gentle rub and saw Barber head...drat.
Found a piece that looks like its of a buckle - it is tarnished and is silver - would have been a nice one if complete
Was hoping for some colonial coins but better than no coins at all.

Yep, every colonial hunters nightmare. This past weekend I was digging 40' below a colonial home abandoned in 1813 and dug a Washington quarter....

Sigh....

Nice hunt overall!

That's a good hunt congrats...

At least you pulled a silver Washington out to save the hunt.

Some great finds C2! These poachers continue to be an issue. We have lost permission in the past because of their actions and presence. WTG, Q.

Looks like your on to something, worth continuing in hope of the really great find, that must be around.

Pine, oak, and willow tree coins have come out of or within a mile or two of every field I go to
I believe that there may be more -a lot more out there - especially of the smaller varieties
its just hitting the right spot at right time and putting your coil over it
my old time hunt partner has gotten 2 tree coins himself but they have been barely recognizable
I know at least 6 others that have gotten some from this area and have heard of even more
I like finding stuff 200+ plus yrs old - love finding the older buttons and musketballs
I get coppers now and then - Spanish silver now and then - but for most in New England
going for the "tree coins" is their objective

I can understand why the Washingtons are annoying when you're looking for tree coins, but I'd be happy with the barber. Good finds, and good luck on your tree coin quest.

Hi; I know by the size of the bowls on the spoons that they are both 1700's. I believe the bottom one is the older of the two. Nice finds. PEACE:RONB

At least you got the barber quarter Casper! haha I know what you mean though... I've pulled v-nickles and IHPs from colonial spots and its a bit frustrating. Hopefully the farmer will keep an eye out for those guys poaching that spot.

Ive found plenty of barber over the years - when I go to fields and cellar holes - I'm hoping for seated and earlier
if I was hunting an old school or park - barber finds would be great

farmers have thrown some of these guys out in the past - they don't care - they wait a season or 2 and just go back in

I believe the upper one might be mid to late 1800s - the lower might be late 1700s - early 1800s
ive gotten seal top and trefid pieces from some of these spots
