I was able to attain permission to detect a vast expanse of farmland that has been in continuous use since 1654 and by Native Americans for much, much longer. I have been trying to make it out for an hour or two before dark after I get out of work each night. These fields are very clean with regards to modern trash, with that stuff being concentrated mostly within 100 feet of the roads, the middle of the fields have mostly good targets. I found the 1788 CT. Copper (right bust) last night. If anyone has any thoughts to the type variety for the CT. copper, I would appreciate it. It seems as though most the the right bust CT's are rare, with the exception of one, which is very common. Mine does not match the very common one, as it does not have the 5-pointed star connecting to the A on the obverse. The quartz arrowhead would have been real sweet if it hadn't fallen victim to the plow, but it's still razor sharp.
The 1927 Standing Liberty (my first SLQ) was found last week behind the school I teach at. I just felt like it deserved to be seen. Here are my finds from the last three days:

The silver is great.....the buttons are awesome......the copper is incredible. CONGRATS:icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the compliments. I am looking forward to the long weekend so I can spend a little more time out there. I will try to take some more pictures of the other button I found, I probably have 20 flat buttons from the site, some with the gilt still on them.
Any guesses on the age of the little copper ring? Or what the numbered tag was for (it's brass)?

Just a matter of going through a few... and almost all the options are pretty good! ...and it's NOT 2-D! (or Miller 1-I)

Don't think it's Miller 4.1-B.1 either, but Miller 3.1-B.1 is very close but have to see the rest.

I'll keep updating as I go just in case someone else is looking.

It's not Miller 4.1-K, which changes enough to make me think it's going to be Miller 3.1-B.1, or Miller 3.2-B.2 which I have yet to find a picture of. Still want to see the others though.

It's not Miller 4.2-R.

It's not Miller 5-B.2.

It's not Miller 6-H.

Thanks Iron Patch. You're input is valued as always! I have the copper soaking in distilled water now, hoping to bring out a little more detail. Unfortunately, the coin has 2 plow strikes on it and is a bit wavy. It's very thin, I haven't weighed it to see how many grains it is, but it sure feels thinner than other CT coppers I've held.

ID'ing coins is the only type of puzzle I think I like.

Unless the last one I haven't seen (Miller 3.2-B.2.) is extremely close even in that condition the ID will be a solid one. What's interesting about these Connecticut bust right is a couple just in the few I've looked at were struck over other coins, and one was off center, even more than yours. Seems like who was making these was only interested in getting the job done and wasn't overly concerned with the final product.

PS: I just read your post through for the first time, at least slow enough to think about it, and that's why I repeated a little of what you already said. Always great to rule out the common one!

I just took a look in my Breen book and says your coin is almost always overstruck on a Constellatio Nova. What it doesn't say is the difference between Miller 3.1-B.1, and Miller 3.2-B.2., so I think that probably means this is only a very subtle change in the die. Don, do you have anything in reference material that says exactly what separates them? (even if he doesn't we both have resources that can easily answer that one) It could be good news, because at this point you could still have the rarer one, just a matter of whether the condition allows us to see that small change, whatever it may be.

Here are two more pictures I took last night. I circled the 5 pointed stars that are difficult to see in the pictures, but are visible in person.12.webp13.webp

There is another 5 pointed star above the bust on the obverse that I forgot to circle.

On the reverse the symbol you have circled is quatrefoil, not a star, but that is correct for this type.

Thank you, I was just going off the picture, I don't have the coin in front of me now.

In that condition it would be very hard to distinguish the two, and I can only do it because I have the text in front of me.

Nice CT copper and SLQ!

If the copper turns out to be a Miller 3.2-B.2 (very rare) would it be worth submitting to ANACS for certification, even with the damage and dug condition?

Personally, I think it's a very good candidate for a peroxide soak and a little light brushing, which I would have done before using water or anything else. (I only use room temp. hp so have no opinion how it would fair if heated. With that said, if it cleaned up well, and considering I can't find a single match online, then maybe it would be something close to being worthy of being sent in. But if we clearly know which it is, there really isn't any point to doing it as you're still not talking a great deal of money. It only makes sense sending a coin in when there's some type of doubt that would make it less valuable, and I don't see that happening in this case. Very rare is a pretty good find, and even rare is for that matter, but you usually need a good grade to cash in even for them.

I just sent an email to someone who will know the difference between the two. So just a matter of waiting for a reply if it doesn't get answered before that.
