I was able to attain permission to detect a vast expanse of farmland that has been in continuous use since 1654 and by Native Americans for much, much longer. I have been trying to make it out for an hour or two before dark after I get out of work each night. These fields are very clean with regards to modern trash, with that stuff being concentrated mostly within 100 feet of the roads, the middle of the fields have mostly good targets. I found the 1788 CT. Copper (right bust) last night. If anyone has any thoughts to the type variety for the CT. copper, I would appreciate it. It seems as though most the the right bust CT's are rare, with the exception of one, which is very common. Mine does not match the very common one, as it does not have the 5-pointed star connecting to the A on the obverse. The quartz arrowhead would have been real sweet if it hadn't fallen victim to the plow, but it's still razor sharp.
The 1927 Standing Liberty (my first SLQ) was found last week behind the school I teach at. I just felt like it deserved to be seen. Here are my finds from the last three days:

ok, think I found what I need, and believe you do have Miller 3.1-B.1.

Ok, I do have it now.

There's only one obverse die ("3") on the chart, so that means the reverse is what the difference is, so I can't see any way your coin is anything other than Miller 3.1-B.1.

Here's the obverse used on both pictured on the right, and the dies that make your coin on the left. If you see any differences you'll have to fire me. :)

Iron Patch, you're the Man! Thank you for your detective work. I really appreciate the time you've spent to find out for me!

Terrific finds. Love the CT copper and that diamond motif button is one of the nicest I've seen. Sounds like there's a lot more there waiting for you to unearth.

Happy to do it as it's fun to try and figure them out, plus once I had it narrowed down I was curious what the difference was between the two, and which you had. It's too bad you didn't have the other one because there doesn't seem to be many floating around.

Iron Patch-
Take a look at this:
http://stacksbowers.com/downloads/catalog/134/SBG_Jan2012Amer_Sess06LR.pdf

page 218.

Too bad mine isn't in that condition, lol.

You're right on that one! Rarity 5+ in MS-63.... Many many thousands. To give you an idea I seen a Machin's Rarity 4 in a high grade sell for 6k, and it appeared to be a circulated coin. There's a good chance I know who bought that 3-b1, and someone else I talk to often that might have been there so I'll ask if he knows what it went for. Or maybe there is a price list somewhere.

That sale probably shows my gut feeling was probably right about the 3-b2 being a much better one to find even though it's not listed as a whole lot rarer, because look at the difference between the two examples offered. MS-63 vs two at VG-8. If most known examples are that low, and yours had been that type, and cleaned up good, you would have made a little payday.

Chris, You'll be searching for those Spanish silvers with me on Monday. Iron Patch, it would be my honor if you could stop up and hunt my neck of the woods some time. I have LOTS of good permissions, so anytime you're interested, let me know!

Nice Conn. Ox. Hogge
