Out at a colonial era cellar hole and figured my day was set when I dug two King George II halfpennies around the site. Then about 10 feet from the root cellar I was lucky enough to pull out this monogrammed gold ring with what looks like "JL" or "TL" on it. At first I thought it was a child's ring because it was so thin, but that's probably not the case since it's gold (The ring tested as 14k). Also pulled out a saddle strap guide, a thimble, a bunch of buttons, and some other broken pewter pieces. A great day of cellar hole hunting!

Awesome ring, and so many buttons with intact loops that aren't smashed flat

That is a a great day at an old cellar hole! The ring and the coins are amazing. Congratulations, any chance that you can find and old land owner map from the time and see if you can match up the monogram with the name? Could be a way to get a close date on the ring.

Gold from any period is hard enough to find (at least for me), but you just don't see 18th century gold being dug except on rare occasions. I saw this ring on Facebook, but I'm not sure if the question was asked. Is it complete and do you have any plans to have it straightened? Congrats on a spectacular find

It's missing a tiny piece on the side of the face as you can see in the picture, but the rest of it is complete. As for straightening it, I don't really see a reason to since it looks fine as it is. I'm going to leave it in its current state for now.

Working on that now.

I personally voted banner on that ring. Phenomenal personalised gold item from a colonial period. Congratulations!

Me too. For the reasons I mentioned, plus if I had found that I would think it worth a vote.

Beautiful old gold, Grats!

Man that's cool. Super old looking too.

Congratulations on some great finds!

there is some nice finds great post

Great save! Love the ring.

Beautiful ring-I agree that it is from the 18th century. Colonial gold, monogrammed and almost completely intact-this is an easy banner find. :occasion14:

I'm not sure but the first initial might be an "I".

Maybe. I don't know if I'll ever figure out that first letter. So far I've heard J, T, S, and now I.

Nice hunt and awesome piece of history you recovered with that ring. I zoomed in on the pic and it has great detail. Congrats!!

it is very old and it's a gold ring with great detail. being colonial period, I too believe that it is Banner worthy. Totally awesome ring. congrats.
