Found this in a forgotten woods. Have found many large cents, capped bust half done and seated silvers in these woods, along with countless buttons and other coins. But what is this? 1794

UPDATE. It's Italian silver!

Neat colonial silver that you don't see dug over here. Wonder what it weighs relative to a one or two reale?

It's about the size of a 1 reale. And it weighs about the same, maybe a little less

Very cool find! Congrats on the Italian silver!!

Very cool find! Congrats on the Italian silver!!

THanks, I'm very excited about this. It was 3 feet from where I found the 1787 Connecticut copper yesterday

Well..you don't see that every day...Really cool find. Congrats!

Yes that's it. What's that doing in north carolina

At that time, pretty much any form of currency was accepted in America. The country was not able to mint all the money it needed for trade, so they used many different types of currency, Spanish currency being the most commonly used, this was commonplace until the mid 19th century. Portions of Italy were also under Spanish rule at this time, so Italian currency getting to America would not be unheard of.

I wonder if any Kronenthalers have ever been found in America?

Congratualtions on the interesting 1794 silver coin, still in good shape! :occasion14:
