This past Sunday I was out covering a small area of log cabin site built before 1775 when I got a good signal at only 5 inches deep turned out to be 11 big flat buttons in the same hole. Wow can't believe my eyes, 11 buttons in the same hole!! Glhh

It's always nice to find an old flat button. Finding 11 in one hole is 11 times as nice. Way to go.

Back of large flat buttons.

Those buttons are in amazing condition Dave! :occasion14:
Congrats on your find, I'd be willing to bet there's more there!

Dave

I still haven't found a flat button! 😞

pretty unusual, seems more than enough for a coat (head scratch)

Pretty cool to find one of those decorative Dandy buttons, but 11 in one hole is something else. If it was a dropped coat you would expect them to scattered around a bit. Did you get any other colonial coins or buttons at that cabin site?

I also found a door knob drawer pull, part of a clock,1968 5 pence British coin,1947 dime,1961d dime,a dateless buffalo nickel,and a a warranted double gilt flat button, and a 1937d penny.

Very cool find. I've found only one dandy button in the past ten years, and I treasure it! For your spill, my guess is that the cabin burned down and took a couple of coats down with it in the fire.

Actually the cabin is still standing, it was recently restored in 1986.

Maybe a coat was lost? Those dandies are beautiful. :) Way to go!

Real awesome condition. Thanks for sharing

I don't argue with the whys or how comes, just thankful for the finds. for some of us it seems we make a really great find and then it is the drought until the next one but you should be set for a while with those dandy buttons, all that other stuff was just mere bonuses(pretty darn good bonuses at that!) colonial finds are always awesome and you hit a grand slam on those buttons!

Great button finding there! Congrats on the save =)

found 7 pewters in 1 hole earlier this year and i got the nickname "BS" button spill. LOL I now give to the tittle "BS Dave". nice haul.

That's a whole lot of buttons. I'm thinking an old coat was dropped as well but as someone stated above, they might be a little more scattered if that were the case. Maybe an old coat was buried intentionally for some reason...with something wrapped up in it maybe?? Great recoveries. Congrats!

Thats amazing, 11 frickin sweet buttons in 1 hole, wow!

Hole wasn't very big maybe 8 inches in diameter, I am glad I made the hole big enough cause I didn't knick any with my lesche or my raptor, I carry both shovels with my pinpointer and bag for trash. I use lesche for shallow stuff and small holes and I use raptor for bigger holes. I also carry a small piece of shower curtain and put dirt on to it when I remove dirt deeper than the plug. I like keeping my permission to places and try to be very neat!
