I dug this button today on a SC plantation site with the motto and seal for Trinidad & Tobago. It has Pulchroir Evenit over a sun (with a face) blowing up waves. The motto means "she gets more beautiful". I suspect the button has some official purchase for the island nation but does anyone have any ideas of age and what it might have been used for?

Not a button guy myself, but it sure is and interesting one. I haven't seen you posting any finds in the GS/TS forums lately JD. You done with it? Seems I've been about the only one searching for treasures in those places lately.

Very cool, never seen one but it looks late 18th-early 19th C.

I have been doing online research and found a similar button from 1840 attributed to the British Admiralty in Tobago. The Motto "Pulchrior Event" was adopted by Trinidad in 1816. I am leaning towards this being a British admiralty button from Trinidad or Tobago in the 1816-1830 period.
