Started out with adding a sensitivity pot and GB pot..Worked out great..Now I have added
dual DISC.I used a 3 3/4 turn pot for GB..trigger toggle for switching between discs
and toggle for on-off..I am in process of creating a new faceplate to finish project..
I have the 5.75 coil on ot now but will be adding the 9x8 umax coil to finish this
project..I can run SENS at about 3/4 before is starts to get chatty...
Have a quarter buried at 8'' and it hits it no problem...More testing when the 9x8 arrives

Wow you've almost got a Tejon'. Nice looking job you've done with the mods!

LOL! That is a lot of work. You should have just bought a Vaquero. :occasion14:

DIY is way cooler than buying! Is it super complicated and time consuming? What mod was the best? What added the depth? I just bought a compadre for my son, new in box so I'm not familiar with Tesoro yet. Is this something you could help direct me with? I'm no engineer.

I love the mods but there is a problem, I can't find any instructions other than the cable and sensitivity mod. Is there a detailed set of instructions out Here?

Cheers,

Waterproof it and call it done! Nice Mods Shen, a labor of love for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Just got me a compadre. Planning on modding it just the same. Any info on the ground balance pot you used and what female and male coil connectors would be great. Nice mods.

Just guessing, you have to have a schematic, the sens and GB is a fixed resistor, you replace it with a 25, 50 or 100k pot. Presumably the board is all smd, I never learned how you solder microcomponents, I learned when we wound our own xformers and caps, used a toiletpaper roll to make an air dialectic variable capacitor tuning coil. Carbon resistors, 10-20% tolerance. Remember chokes? Heck, remember analog power supplies?

It took about a two hours to solder all the components.. Its pretty easy to mod this detector.

Sens pot is B10k
GB pot is B100k
Disc pot is B100k for dual disc.
Female cable connector 5 pin SL175FX Switchcraft
Male cable connector 5 pin SL405MX Switchcraft

Also my Bandido II micro will hit a quarter at best at 5" with the clean sweep coil.. this thing right at 7"!

Im looking forward to the dual disc clean sweep.

That would be a sweet setup! To be able to run one disc just below nickel and the other just above zinc would be awesome.

I was also considering the same mods (other than the dual disc). There are trimmer pots (variable resistors) for GB & sens that are preset at factory, you can solder in the new (adjustable) pots there. Seems pretty straightforward.

Switchcraft is the best.

Sounds like fun.

Hi shen13, love those mods... ^_^
Now that this thread (and your modifications) are a couple years old, how has your Compadre been working out?
Asking 'cause I just bought a Compadre to keep my Tejon company, and I'm considering giving the Compadre some tweaks. Would love to see pics of your Compadre's internals... ^_^

can you explain how you did this? do you have pics? i found this pic, is this what you did?

Hi from Calgary!
I also did the sensitivity pot to cut down chatter. Works great!
Also installed a 10 turn pot for GB.
After doing so I could not figure out how to adjust GB. Any takers?
Thanks,
TTT

Is the dual disc mod really needed?

The mod looks like a fun project. I would tinker with my Golden Sabre if there was a how-to to follow.
