i think you will find the old silver sabre plus battery holder might be the same as that holds 6 aa batteries but the connection is the same as a 9 volt battery PS i used 9 volt ones instead of the battery pod and it still worked fine

I will google the silver sabre. The connection is the same as a 9 volt. I'll give one a try. Thank you.

noble,

Thank you very much! I ran down to the barn and got the Compass out. Brought it to the house and inserted one 9v battery. Took it outside and did the old coin test. Works like a charm. I trimmed a little foam pipe insulation to hold the battery in place.

thats what i said use a 9 volt it always worked ok for me plus its easier to charge a 9 volt instead of 6 aa.s DEREK

It is refreshing to see another Compass Liberty 100 owner! :icon_thumleft:
Yes,you can use a single 9V battery. Though you won't get as many hours of use as the six AA batteries.
You should be able to get the 6 pack AA battery holder at RadioShack. If not,try Mouser.

It is a sad thing, the company went under. They made a good detector.

I used this detector for just a little bit. Family, work, etc. got in the way. You know. It's been in the tack room for 20 years?

I'm retired now and thought I would take up the hobby again. Serious this time. The compass would of done the job if I could of powered it up. Never dawned on me to just use a 9v. I did call radio shack on the phone, they had no idea of what I was talking about.

I will take this out again and see if it can give the F2 a run for it's money.

Here is what the 6 AA battery pack looks like.

Well, this is what it looks like after you try to glue it back together. Other end is the same way.

Could you please tell me how deep it will go on different coins. I have an interest in vintage detectors and heard that compass made good ones. Thanks, Doug.
