Started with a Minelab xterra 505. Then Equinox 600 with stock coil, xl coil and sinper coil depending on circumstances. Now use a manticore.
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Been working a spot a co worker told me about. This was a surprise off main trail. Anyone know age? Update
Pewter spoon bowl, piece of blue and white china and suspender clip came out last night as well. Brass base to ??, silvered brass lid and watch winding key came out over the weekend. Pocket watch and one spoon week prior. Wax seal matrix and one spool bowl were found back in April. Like to show relic history of site.

It looks like a WWI era German bayonet, but many from that era look virtually the same. Any markings stamped on it?
I'll let you know as soon as it gets some electrolysis. Unfortunately the cell I used for the cannon ball isn't big enough for a 20inch bayonet. So I'm in process of building bigger one. I found a bayonet handle in the water over the summer. Didn't expect a whole one. Have to go back and see if grips were in hole. Was running out of light.

Great finds - congrats !
Looks like it would be worth hunting that site again - real low & real slow !
It's a pain because the areas I want to get in are usually really overgrown or open and full of shotgun shell and ammo. The productive strips have a lot of nails and iron. Then it gets dead quite and back to non stop nail and iron chatter. So yes low and slow with small coil. Fortunately soil is really soft so depth isn't an issue.

It is a French Model 1892 bayonet used with the Mannlicher-Berthier cavalry and artillery carbines.
Thank you for id. Wasn't expected since it came out blade 1st. Figured it was junk at 1st.

Very cool digs, congrats!
I've dug a lot of pocket watches but they're always rotten or in pieces, still waiting for one like that to pop out.
Thank you. It's really neutral soil here, good drainage and soft. That helps. Usually I only find the case back or the case with no guts. Only have one other pocket watch but it's rought. One in post is a cheapy non jeweled movement one. Hope you find a good condition one.

Got some electrolysis in a quickly rigged cell. It needs more though so I need to put rest of bucket cell together. Cell is mostly done. Here are the markings.

Looks like issue number 58930. Per research seems wood grips weren't introduced until 1905 on these. Or so I've read.

I had a bayonet in similar condition rust wise. It still had the handles though. I soaked it in evaporust and was amazed at how well it came out and displayed.
Great hunt!
