Concerning the "new" GT meter

I just spoke to Minelab in reference to the new meter (The new part number is #3012-0084.) The parts rep said that it has been out for "a couple years". The old one calibrated a dime to 550 or so, the "new" one calibrates to 180. Just thought I would pass this on. It doesn't sound too new really. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Bryan
UPDATE: I sent another email to Minelab to confirm the fact that according to her, there is no new meter, she said they "did come out with a new one but it is calibrated to 180 not 550". If I were the designer of a new , updated Digi Meter, I would sure advertise that fact. There is no such advertising to be found that I know of. I see no advertising anywhere of an improved Digi Meter, besides the present blue one. Bryan

Re: Concerning the "new" GT meter

I was told by a dealer that he received the info from Minelab and that it was new. I hadn't heard of anything like that and everyone I contacted had not heard of a new meter. I wondered why if the old one was calibrated for 180, what did the new one have. I too would think if they had a new "improved" meter come out that they would advertise it. Unless of course they wanted to support the dealers that still had the older one. Sandy Burton of Minelab told me that the meter was new, but I didn't ask why, how or when it came out. Why the new part number then? ???

Take Care,
Sandman

I am not sure, I am still a bit confused too. The lady I spoke with said the new meter came out in 05 when the GT came out. The newness of the meter was that it was calibrated at 550 for a dime, but the 05 meter was calibrated at 180. When I later spoke with the parts person, he was a bit confused about my question about a "new" meter that had come out. I gave him the part number that was supposed to be the newer one. He looked it up and said, ya that is the most recent one and has been out a "couple years". Perhaps they tweaked it, but even then, you would think that advertisement would occur. Who knows. I don't have a meter for my GT yet, but am considering getting one. When I saw the posts about the new meter that came out and saw that I could find no advertisements or even references for a new improved meter or such, I made the phone call to Minelab. Anyway, perhaps much ado about nothing, just thought I would pass on the info. Take care and good luck in your hunting, Bryan

Re: Concerning the "new" GT meter

Bryan, I just hit the Kellyco website and they advertise the new meter for the GT. I checked with them a couple weeks ago and was told it was on back order for six months. Heck, I could be dead by then.

Go to http://www.kellycodetectors.com/minelab/minelab-sovereigngt.htm and scroll down to the meter and you will see what I mean.

Good Luck too.

I guess that is where the part number comes in. The parts man said that it had been recallibrated "a couple years ago". Thanks for the link. Bottom line is that if it was newly calibrated since the 550 to 180 change in 05, Minelab and everyone elses advertising that fact sucks, because it is non-existant. If I made new improvements to my product, I would sure describe just what was improved on my website! If Kellyco indicates it, yet Minelab's website doesn't, something is wrong. Take care, Bryan

Sandman that is what I had asked you in another post but you didnt answer it. I thought it was the digimeter they have pictured but wasnt sure.
When speaking with minelab I think they use the word new and mean latest. Not long ago in one of the mags that are for treasure hunting Minelab referred to the Explorer SE as new and we all know that its the "newest" but certainly not new(just released).
Anyway glad its all cleared up now.
Also, I spoke with a minelab dealer just the other day and he said there is no backorder on the meter so Im a little suprised Kellyco would tell you that. You might try asking for JW next time you call Kellyco, Im sure he can get you one fairly quick. Hope that helps,
HH

Re: Concerning the "new" GT meter

Neil I am sorry I missed your post. I was laid up for awhile and just now starting to get around. The woman I talked to was Sharon something working in customer service.

I can wait a short time as snow is up to my knees and I can hardly walk anyway. Taking lots of golden raisins soaked in Jack Daniels.

I agree, newest means latest, and the latest is 05 when the GT came out and they recallibrated the meter from 550 to 180 on a dime. Bryan
