Today I decided that Kentucky must have been a very poor state because all the houses I detected at today didn't really yield anything except a buttload, and yes....a buttload of wheat pennies. I found 2 silver rosies and 49 wheaties, oldest being a 1917d it looks like. Oh well, at least it adds to the penny collection! Not really worth takin a pic of.

Nothing wrong with wheats, still worth digging to me.

Kentucky wasn't poor. They were frugal.
Look in all the usual cache spots.

That's a lot of wheat pennies. At least you had something to dig!

How exciting anyhow... Wheaties I'll take anyday. ;D
If can I would hunt now....50 too 100 yards around homes, houses etc...slowly. 8)

Hi Kevo!

Are you new here in KY? I've lived in the 'Ville for five years now. I originally thought the same thing about KY--that they were too poor to have lost much. I have now realized that is a false statement. You just have to do enough research to realize where the good stuff is! Check out my previous posts--Kentucky Diggers Vol. I and II, Big Silver Pocket Spill, and numerous CW campsite posts. (Most are in the KY section, but some campsite posts are now buried in Todays Finds and can be found on my previous posts, pages 7-8 or so...) The good stuff is here, but it takes some time in the books to locate it. I've never been too keen on cache hunting, but one doesn't have to be a cache hunter to do well here in KY. My buddy Kindafoundabuckle and I recovered lots of CW bullets, buttons, a sword belt plate, Spanish Reales, Barber silver, gold jewelry, and many other items in the past year. On my list for this year is finding a King George Copper--and I think it is possible! So hit the books, and good luck.

Regards,

Buckleboy

I'll trade you all the pop cans i've dug for all those wheaties anyday

still fun to dig wheats

;D I must agree with buckleboy, research is the key to any good finds. That is unless you count on luck and than there few and far in between.

With all those Wheaties, there had to be more silver. My guess is someone maybe quite a few years before you cherry picked out all of the silver. They must have missed the 2 Rosies.

Kentucky was one of the first states in the western migration out of Virginia. Some of the more prominent Virginia families left their nutrient depleted plantations for new soil. Do some good research and your bound to make some great finds.

Lol, I just replied to a seven year old post....

Like Buckleboy said research is EVERYTHING. Be persistent and keep trying. I started hunting about 6 years ago, and thought the town I was hit was going to be hunted out. Well I was wrong.

Remember, It all depends where you are looking in Kentucky, Look at some old archives, and you may find a good place to search.
