Needing some advice on whether these are real or fake. I didn't pay anything for them so I won't be out any money if they aren't real.

I'm no expert but that looks fake to me..
 
All legit, nice find. Each note was hand cut, hand signed, serial numbered and dated. It was more like a savings bond that would mature only after (6 months) a treaty was signed between the CSA and USA. The cost .08 per dollar in 1861
 
You did well, especially since you paid nothing for them!
