Confederate Gold from the Civil War was Found in a Shocking Place

yes, lots of moral dilemmas in the responses
But this is slightly different.
No one owns the land, it's public property.
Just you and your dog there.

How do you physically get it out of the woods?
Without chopping it all up.
You haven't given enough info, how big and heavy is the nugget?

First, how can you get it out of the woods? About a mile or so in maybe more.
Without everyone knowing what you are doing.

Second, how can you get it on the market to sell it without the government try to take it?
2nd one first.... Why would the government want it if it's on the market?

You haven't given enough info, how big and heavy is the treasure?
a gold nugget.
say the size of the welcome stranger nugget.

that's a replica he is holding.

figure 19 times heavier than what is in his hands.
since golds specific gravity is 19.32
200 lbs. let's say.

1+ miles in woods... to big to carry.... so at least 50 lbs. Nice nugget.

EDIT: I stand corrected.... 200 lbs.

Achance for gold found something lol
Nope,
Just planning ahead.
I assure you if I found something that big.
I wouldn't be on the treasure net forum making post any time soon.

I was up and down a bunch of hills with the dog the other day
Ended up at the bottom of a small gully and had the horrible thought.
If the dog found something, how the heck am I getting it out of there, up and down the hills, that were steep

Pulleys. A mule.

Pulleys. A mule.
I had a hard enough time getting my butt back up the hill.
I can't imagine if i had to drag something up with me.

Can't use ATV's it's a sanctuary, animal preserve.
No driving vehicles, closest you can park a vehicle is about 1+ miles away.

The animal mule like a donkey
I don't think our Walmart carries donkeys.

Where would I get a donkey?

It's difficult.
Can't tell anyone.
Can't give them a 100 dollars to come help.
Or you may be in that hole where the nugget was.

Please give me the dilemma of a 200 pound nugget! I’d have no problem getting it out of the woods 10 miles in!

My god man, you secure it to a strong ridge pole and three guys carry 67 pounds on their shoulder.

Strap it on the back of a mule?

How do you think people packed all of the iron mining and logging equipment into the steep mountain canyons?

If we have to play by your rules, you use compound mechanical advantage at night, carefully concealing your work.

so, you would leave a 200-pound nugget in the woods.
Walk a mile back to your car.
Travel back into town,
hire some guys you don't know to come help you carry a 200-pound gold nugget out of the woods.

This isn't iron mining equipment you're asking someone to help with.
This would be valued at several millions of dollars.

I can pick up 200 lbs but not easily carry it, BUT with a good strap/harness rig I could carry it out under the cover of darkness, plenty of time to stop and take breaks, if I did have any difficulty I could easily make a travois to drag it out.

I think that's the way.
I would probably have a heart attack doing it.
of course that's my luck anyways.

But not sure I would trust some strangers to help.
Heck, the guys in the story couldn't trust the FBI.

I agree, during darkness would be plenty of time IMHO, a one man job.

I might just give up on nugget hunting.
I don't want to find that record breaking nugget.
Too much work getting it out of the woods.

Just Kidding.

I'm going to get more dogs to help me drag it out when we do find it.
😁

What are you talking about? Is this a dream you’re explaining? Each time different situation?

To answer your question.
YES, I’d absolutely leave a 200 pound nugget in the woods and not think much of it.

Would I return quickly with two other family members…father, son..brother. Certainly I would.
Who said anything about hiring people I don’t know??!

Why are you making it so difficult? Donkeys at Walmart? I mean come on.

Is this a recent nightmare your trying to work out?
