I've been meaning to post this for a while....

Right before the pandemic last year I was visiting a somewhat local antique shop and found this for sale there.

It was priced WAY lower than the other ones for sale. There were some union soldiers in the fancy little folding frames (who's proper name escapes me at the moment), but this one was loose. I wasn't sure about it until I got it out of the glass case and held it. It was a legit tintype of a soldier in an early or militia type uniform, and written in cursive (and barely visible) on the back was "Uncle John. Drowned during the Civil War".

I bought it right away...

I did some research, and found these similar uniforms white or buff belts...all Virginia units...even darker trim on some like in my picture.

He even looks like he could be one of the guys in this picture....

All but one of those pics loaded sideways...seems to be a Windows10 thing....so I had to edit them in multiple ways to get them to load properly...so the actual tintype is a reversed image....as the attached thumbnails show.

That's an awesome find! Could be him on the right in your 3rd pic. With some detective work you might be able to track down descendants.

Great research. What a treasure hunt. I love the research and you have done well with yours. Nice find.

Thanks!

I love the research part of it as well....When researching a potential site, it is the treasure hunt before the treasure hunt!
