Thanks to everyone for the kind remarks. I am very fortunate to hunt in an area that the sandy soil is very kind to buttons. This button was not cleaned other than a little water with a very soft brush to wash off the sandy soil. Over the years, I have excavated some buttons that were so perfect that you could sew them on a uniform and would never know they were dug. I have also dug buttons in other places with bad ground that would fall apart as soon as they were removed from the soil. I have found many US and Confederate buttons, but this is my first Confederate staff button. It is special to me.
