A million-dollar stash of gold hidden by New Zealand's biggest benefit fraudster has made everyone a little richer.
The government confiscated the haul when Police caught Wayne Patterson.
Now the government has sold the gold, which it had come to own by accident.
In October 2006, Patterson was arrested for multiple benefit fraud. He had assumed 123 different identities and was being paid $50,000 in benefits every fortnight.
When Police raided his house, they found the gold and cash hidden in secret compartments. Some was also buried in the garden.
