Wow that looks amazingly old. I don't know much about Colonial coins. looks around late 16oos to early 1700s. Does it have a date on it?

Very nice find mate. Now what is this?
Come on Colonial coins specialist we waiting for opinion.

You guys on the East coast have all the luck.

Nice coinage.

EXCELLENT Copper! Now you have to have it ID'd. (Maris classification) If you send a pic to Colonial coin collectors of America, on the Yahoo website, They will ID it for you. Actually cleaned up pretty good. Who knows, maybe it's an undiscovered die var. worth alot of $$$. That's the thing with these Conn. Coppers, there are SO many die varieties, you could have a very rare one and not even know it! Colonial Coin Collectors of America ID'd mine for me. A guy by the name of Ray Williams in New Jersey is the Pres. He's a nice man......these guys love IDing these things.

Maris is for New Jersey coppers, Connecticuts use Miller die varieties. Nice coin! Yours has plenty of detail to identify, but it will take someone really well versed in Connecticuts. There are over 300 varieties and some of the differences are very difficult to see. If no one else chimes in I will try to find the time to give it a shot.

sweeeeeeeet dude !!!!!!  still waiting here......... :P

...it is absolutely a counterfeit! Really rough one too! I id'ed it in Breen's book. The coin matches up... I have a house and tavern that both date to the late 1700s. This coin was found after I had the backyard bulldozed for a drain field. It was only 3" in the ground!

man, you must live in an old neighborhood. way to go on the coppa !!!

Ha.. and then some! My town was established in 1754 with a lot of houses dating to the late 1700s. The "newest" house in town is still pre 1900. Pretty good place to relic hunt.

Morning Monekyboy, nice CT copper. I gave a quick look and I am sure it is a 1787, now I have not in my opinion found the exact sub variety, but it is close to the Miller 33.19-Z.2. I do not have photos of some of the other reverses, and that is where I see possibly slight differences, so just on what I see, like most CT coppers, your coin is at least a Rarity 3 I believe. I will spend a few more minutes and if I cannot be certain, I can forward to a C4 expert, but I am hoping I can ID it correctly first.

MonkeyBoy you kick Connecticut Coppa butt !!

How many of us can say we can walk out to our backyard and dig a state coppa ?
