Cool clean up of today's finds

I have been putting it off, I don't know why now that I did it, I'm referring to electrolysis. I tried it in the past on some rusted iron, today I did it on a couple of wheats I found yesterday then that took off and I cleaned some of my old buttons and a old Indian Head penny I found in Phila.

Nice job, Treb. I thought I was the only one that used electrolysis on non valuable coins, lol. Msbeepbeep, I used it on all my toasted old LC's except my first KGII. It will take you down to the metal. If any detail is still encrusted on the exterior, you will lose that. Many times, the coin will turn black but if you gently rub it with common baking soda and water, the black will go away and the beautiful color of the metal will appear. I would never suggest anyone use this method on their coins because any cleaning you do is permanent. For myself, I choose it because I will never sell them as they have more sentimental value than real value.

I don't know about Treb, but I use an old cell phone charger.

I thank everyone for comments, I use a battery charger, on 12 volt, 10 amp. I have been doing 5 min Timed until I get desired effect. I'm using kosher salt and tap water with a splash of lemon juice. When water turns dirty I change it. I love how my buttons are coming up.

Next time try dropping the wheats in hot peroxide for a minute then hitting them with a toothbrush. I think you will like the results a lot better.

We seem to be thinking alike, Treb. I use vinegar and tap water with sea salt. Works great on copper.

Yeah I did that before the before shots, then I zapped them. After zapping them it comes out real brassy clean, not dried green.
Look at the green on these Hot P ones I found today.
