Copper and iron tube ? someone told me might be for a cannon

In a old apple orchard that was being plowed over i dug this copper tube sealed on the end with a iron square rod on the other end i used pliers to break off the rust on the iron its 3 inches long and 25mm in dynamiter and heavy for its size ,thanks for any ID help Dd60

Man, you are good! I think you are spot on. You can see where the hole was in the end and you can see where the flared end corroded off as well as the square rod protruding. By the way what's the story with the pic on your avatar? Is it something you found and is there a thread on it? Looks interesting...Rich.
