Copper artifact (what is it!?)

My dad found this copper piece while hunting in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Wondering if anyone knows what it might be or what it was used for. Thanks!!

Shape resembles a broken butt plate, wouldn't be copper though. Brass.

The natives used copper for various artifacts. That said it kinda looks like a point but is off just a little. Nice find however.
