Copper ingot???

MackDigger · Oct 15, 2014

Maybe led not sure and some other cool stuff

boogeyman · Oct 16, 2014

That's the end of a bar of solder. Plumbers used them to solder cast iron pipes together.

Tnmountains · Oct 16, 2014

Yep I have seen the old bars of lead like that. I bet it blasted your head phones off.

treblehunter · Oct 16, 2014

Cool finds, looks like that one TNetter's avatar!

Old Dude · Oct 16, 2014

Plumbers USED to use lead, lol. Today cast iron is joined with rubber and metal gaskets or have a " bell and spigot " end. The last I knew, California still used a lot of cast iron drain pipe because of it's quietness and their " noise pollution " laws. Because of the electric vehicle popularity, lead has become one of the most sought after precious metals today. Maybe we should be looking for it instead of gold or silver lol!

Nice digs.

I have no clue. It's pretty heavy and rang 85 on my at pro. It does look like it has engraving but I can't make it out.

The bull head is a cool find!

Ingots are not fancy so that rules out ingot. Whatever it is, if it's lead, it will have a shiny silvery color after you scrape the coating off. If it's copper, it will have a shiny reddish color, which will be outstanding because no other elemental metal known to man has that distinctive copper reddish color. But make sure you scrape the crappy corrosion off first. Look at new zincies to see what copper looks like. Take an old fishing sinker and cut it with a knife. That's what lead looks like. Hope this helps!!

CoinandRelicMan · Oct 17, 2014

Interesting relics there, tried wiping the tag with some talc powder to see if it brings out any details?

EPA finally shut down the last smelter that could process lead from ore. The conspiracy folks are claiming it's back door gun control.

Been saving slugs & sinkers for a year ore so now. Six months ago could only get 50 cents a pound. Last week they quoted $1.35 lb. Hey what the heck it'll pay for batteries & snacks if we don't hoard it!
