Now that I figured out the gold nugget that found in the same area I got around to this other nugget. And guess what, it seems to be a alloy of copper and gold, and I can see a couple of spits that look to be shot with gold. I see areas of gold and copper. Do any of you see what I see? It weighs close to a couple pounds, maybe more, and I clearly see gold.

I wonder what it would look like with the copper verdigris patina and the manganese coatings off. I guess I'll end up using Winslow's vinegar and table salt solvent solution to loosen up the patina and coatings.

I would love to get out to the High Desert again some time, only time I've been out there was meteorite watching in Lucerne's dry lake bed.

The Morongo Basin wants to be separate from the High Desert, :). I looked up aluminum and copper per ci and 3 ci of aluminum weighs 132.75 g, and 3 ci of copper weighs 438 g rounded down. I see lots of hollow areas now, that nodual is a bubble. Thanks again.

Ahh, you're around/off 62 on the east side of SBNF. I've been wanting to hit up the SBNF for some prospecting, might go the extra 20 minutes east to do desert hunting!

Well guess what, I set up the experiment taking particular care by being precise as possible. I placed the glass inside the measuring pitcher. Then being careful by filling the glass to the rim without breaking the surface tension. Then I lowered the specimen down into the water below the surface. Then I used a paper towel to remove s enough water to remove the sample and then the glass. Then I used a 1cc syringe to measure the overflow. I got 15.5 cc of water.

So 15 cc of displaced h2o is the same as 15.5 ml.

Then my new quantitative analysis for the sp is 15.80.

Here's how I got that:
50 /x 15.5ml = 15.806451613

Gold :)..

That sounds a bit more like what I was expecting. Not pure gold but definitely can't be anything else. Probably 18-20 Karat purity!

Hey SoCalDesertFox I put the nugget back into what I started calling Winslow's gold cleaning solvent. The pinkish color is disappearing, it must be dissolving into solution, a green tent to the solution is starting to develop. It's astonishing to me, its turning a solid gold color right before my eyes as I write this. The soultion is exposing a crystalline surface throughout the whole nugget. It is is really amazing, like a frosted cake.

But dang my wife is feeling left out because zI'm giving this nugget so much attention. Thanks.

It looks that the pinkish color was being caused by microscope copper particles trapped or lock into place by the gold crystals that by my observations are covering some of the surface. There is a very small amount of blond colored sands developing in the bottom of the breaker, and grain size bubbles observed every 10 seconds or so.

OK, I'll ask the question on everybody's mind.....

What are the EXACT coordinates of this find? Ha!

Very nice.

My scale only goes to 100 grams so I made a balance scale and used fishing weight weighing them as I go. I got 245 grams, :). Heck I thought Banner too but it's only a giant gold nugget that's pushing a 1/2 pound, ;).

I guess people don't know how rare a gold nugget of this size and caricature is. Thanks

Here's a pic of how many fishing weights that it took to balance it out.

I think it isn't getting noticed because of the title of the post. e.g. "copper nugget". A post title that has "7.8 troy ounce gold nugget" in the title will go to the banner quickly.

I think I'll stop cleaning it now and seekk professional advice before I start removing crystals. Thanks for watching this thread you all and remember "Gold Is Where You Find It":

It has a frosting of gold and gold crystals in places, gold is soft and i wouldn't want it devalue a $20.000.00 gold nugget by flattening crystals or over cleaning. Dude the thing glows without any light, seriously it really does.

I've been using a bristol brush with bleach and baking soad on the stubborn areas in between soaking in the soultion.
