I’ve been out in the Gold Basin area when it was a bit cooler and managed to turn up a couple nuggets and even a few meteorites. It’s a whole different kind of country compared to other spots I’ve hit in Arizona.
I’ve always wanted to see the King Tut claims ever since I heard about them from Walking Eagle, and finally made it out there. Most of the ground is tied up, but I was lucky enough to meet a few guys who let me swing on their claims. Ended up finding a couple small nuggets with the GPX 6000, so I can’t complain.
If you haven’t been, it’s worth the trip once it cools down. Ran into a few folks who pulled some really nice nuggets, and even heard about a really big one that came out not too long ago. Won’t go into details, but I saw pictures.
While I was doing some research on the internet, I came across an article with some decent info and photos on the area if you’re thinking about heading out that way:
