I was at one of my favorite hunting grounds the other day and found several mid to late 1800's relics. This item rang in at a solid 85 on my at pro at 8" down. It is about 6" long with a braided copper wire inside. I am usually pretty good about figuring out what unidentified things were used for but this one has me baffled. I would normally search the internet but I don't even know what to enter in the search bar. I am sure someone on here will know...

Part of a lightning rod?

More likely part of a fuel line off of a tractor, or a gas line off of an old stove. If there is a wire inside the unit it is probably from an old lamp. Regardless, it isn`t very old whatever it is. If it was really old it would be black in color from tarnish.

Thank you 2oldbones. Very useful information.

I say it looks like the inside of an old brass water nozzle.

That is a brass gas line fitting. It would have fit a tank or some type of gas appliance. The tapered part slides into a fitting and a brass threaded collar would screw down around it, sealing the fitting. Here is a similar example:

I hope this helps!

I want to change my guess to it being part of a fuel injector instead of a water nozzle.

Searchdeep, is there any chance at all that this could be part of an early heated cathode?

p.s. i.e. cooled anode......heated cathode pre-war
