Copper Something er Other

Last fall my dad took me to one of his plowed fields where he had noticed remnants of brick, leading him to believe there could have been a settlement/trading post/etc. It was a large area to cover in very little time, but I found this copper container. I thought maybe it was a holder for matches, but the bottom flare seems unnecessary for such a use. Any ideas?

My guess would be a lipstick tube or maybe a shotgun shell. Better pic's would help.
