Relic Hunting
I manage to get out and went to find some archaic spots. Found about 5 round house depression and swung real slow. Came up with two copper pieces in the hour I was there. My vaquero battery was near dead so it kept faking.

I know this forum has been mixed together stone/ copper. So hope some enjoy.

My humble day. At least I know where a Clovis may be and that's what I'm hoping for.

Do you find stone tools,bone,shell,pottery... of any kind where you hunt with your detector?
Sorry about the questions but this is alien to me.
Are you saying you found an archaic house floor?

I have only tried that at one site which I posted here. I am at the beginning of this hobby so I just adding sites. Have you dug near round house pits. I am really wet behind the ears on this one. Should I expect stone in the area? If so I'll do the 10 x 10 . really don't know how to best look for it.

Where I a am you see a round area that seems sunk I the ground. My rivers are deep so this is my option. We may be on different hunting options. I would love a Clovis. I guess ilk have to dig a bit.

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by house pit.
If your talking about a cellar hole that would not be the place to find native American artifacts.
I know next to nothing about the copper culture... but I'm going under the assumption they lived like most other archaic Native Americans.
In my mind finding copper artifacts made by Native Americans would be done by locating a Native occupied site..that would have a range of all the normal artifacts... having some copper implements mixed in.

are you in ontario, lake huron is getting way lower, and they found a village site under it.love canada used to live on the st clair river.copper should be near ya if your in ontario

I'm in Ontario. I find smaller pieces. I guess the natives by the source had the option to pump out bigger pieces. I have yet to find anything large. 2. 1/2 pi inch conical is the biggest. Being away from the source I guess this is the norm in size

never give up,copper made it to tn so its there also.you should walk lake huron,oh how i want too.

batcawana bay, bruce mines kamichiquia river, thunder bay, rainy lake emo rainy river district to name a few spots in ontario were they were found

No square cellar type holes, just round depression about 5-6 feet across , within 50 feet of a river,
.

Jamey come and hunt in Ontario. be happy to bring you to a spot.

And you never see a single artifact of any other kind? Not even when digging a target?
I'm just not getting it I guess...what exactly do you believe these depressions are?
I'm full of questions...sorry.
Just trying to figure out how you come to the conclusion you're on a Native American site and not a sinkhole.

i need to go back to michigan too see my brother and sister, how far are ya from the bluewater bridge.and i will have to get a passport now.something i need to do anyway.i wonder if they made anything from the petosky stones there, not sure if i spelled that right.i never looked for anything while i lived in michigan but have a few spots id likr to look at.thanks for the invite i may just look you up next summer.

Eh... no worries.. just chatting.
:-)

Hey gator. I'm hunting a stretch of the river that is about 3 miles long. I have dug at one site and you
can click in my name to see the finds. Only stone at one site because I only dug there. I went from living in the heart if a city to the bush so I'm 2 years into this. I have seen carved bone, stone, copper, and pottery here. I had my telsoro vaquero out so no stone/ bone. I really have not attempted a dig but would welcome best foot forward.
