Looks like a gold wedding band to me. You found 3 of those in a relatively small area? WOW! That's phenomenol.

Oh, wait, I think I now see what you're asking about. A footlocker nameplate?

Thanks for your replies. My wife thought trunk decoration as well. It is not a corner piece because it is supposed to be flat. There are two holes so it was definitley tacked to something...

The person I found it with said it had something to do with a grave marker...he has found others prior to this and was told that is what they are...verdict is still out.

If this thing were to be flattened out, as it apparently was in it's original condition, you can see that all four of its "points" would be the same--with the exception of the two opposing points that have holes in them. Holes, as was mentioned previously, are for nailing or screwing (and I mean that in the nicest way) to a wooden backing of some sort. So it seems logical that this thing would be used as some type of identifying mark. But it is relatively small in size, so what could it have been placed on? Being part of a grave marker just doesn't seem plausible to me, but I'm ready to be proved wrong (again!!).

I would go with the trunk piece or some sort of furniture decoration.

He said the thing is copper. How many trunk escutcheons are made from copper? None that I've ever seen. Nope, this thing seems to have been used in a more than merely a utilitarian manner. It's probably something that would have had some significance....

do you know for sure it is copper.....?

Yup, I have one....identical. Probably exactly the same size as well. It does appear to be copper.

As you can see...mine is perfectly flat, and has impressions around the holes which likely indicate screws once fastened it onto something.

I found mine at a site that was a multi-component site...so it's impossible for me to date this piece really.

I tend to think it's some sort of furniture piece as well...but if it is, it must be something that was fairly common in homes, as I know a few others who have one or two exactly the same.

I found mine in Ontario, Canada.
