Found out today while doing an air test that each BAR has its own distinct audio tone when in SUM mode. My air test included foil, gold rings, nickle, pulltabs, and coins. The IRON and FOIL bars have the lowest pitch, 5 CENT bar has a higher tone pitch, ROUND TAB bar is higher, and so on. Also noticed that wheaties give a higher pitch tone than zincs, and quarters sound higher than dimes. Did the test in discriminate mode then switched to SUM for each target. These different tones help ID targets better.

Now your getting it. With practice you can remember the tones and won't look at the meter. Though remember that other targets with the same conductivity as the coins will also have the detector respond with the same tone in Sum.

I always thought the Cortes was a single tone detector. But it has 7 or 8 tones in the SUM mode and they change with each bar graph. Great target ID detector.

Tykit,

Not only that the Cortes has tones in "sum" mode, but remember, it also reprocesses the target signal and locks on the best signal available. You will get fewer junk targets if you analyze the initial signal with the "sum" mode. Joe

Yes the cortes has nine that is 9 tones in the SUM mode..........
