Need help,
I found this at a lil crappy beach that is open to the gulf, it was in the tide line at about mid tide, about 8" deep. Could see a little spot of golden color on it, in one spot. I cleaned it up a little at home to find more color, but stopped to not damage what little I had, lol.

I definitely have my doubts but can't help to think this could be real gold. It looks to have some other metal attached or bound to it, unless it is just encrusted with age. I always thought gold came up looking the way it went into the water?

This looks like it has been majorly corroded, which i thought gold didn't do. Could it have taken on the characteristics of iron if it was bound to it and corroded together? Maybe the sand just ground it down over the years? I have no idea what I'm looking at here...

You need to upload a picture if you are asking for help

I'm fairly sure it's not gold but you might want to invest in the gold test kits (acid). I'm not even sure if it's brass, which can look similar to your picture. But get a test kit, A great investment for a pirate, about 15 dollars off ebay and let us know.

Brass would make more sense. Great advice on the test kit. Thanks

As our friend OBN says, get the test kit, scales, fixed scope camera, and all the other toys you need to take your doubts away = they'll tell ya the truth.

However....some brass may hold on 10k acid. It appears brass to me as well. Oddly, someone recommended rubbing it between your finger till warm then smelling them. Brass smells gold dont

Looks like gold plating, where most of it has broken off as the host metal rusted away. :skullflag:

Could that be a piece of a circuit board?
