Hi all.
Firstly, I should start by saying that I'm in now way a gold digger/collector. I'm in Washington state currently visiting my better half's family, we went for a nice walk in the mountains and by the river I came across these stones...
Could anybody please help me identify them? I know that the white bits in the rock are quartz, just no idea about the rest!
Many thanks in advance,
Will.

I don't think it is gold, but for your sake I hope it is!

some of the bits show rust stains, so I vote no. I'd lean closer to it being flecks of pyrite

I think I'd have to agree after googling pyrite! It does appear to be rusting in some places.

Thanks for the help!

Will, where are you in WA?

You'll find a lot of quartz in most W. Washington creeks and rivers, and
often nit contains iron so it appears as "rusty". Unfortunately, I've yet to
find a spec of gold in any of the couple dozen samples I've crushed and
panned out.
