Hello I found what seams to be a 1923 peace dollar But! After close inspection it looks as though it has been cast not stamped.
I was cleaning it up and the silver look began to vanish. Like some one applied mercury to it; Now it looks like a golden dollar.
It has been sitting around for a while and doesn't tarnish; I tasted it and it doesn't taste or smell like bronze or copper.
It is heavy and has a few dents around the rim. The rim looks like it has been shaved no ridges.
Why in the world would some one cast a dollar coin in the first place? Not for profit and the G-Men would be all over your case.
Any one have any ideas? The shaved outer rim got Me thinking how the old timers used to shave there coins. :icon_king:

It was not uncommon for poor folks to cast coins of that size in lead.

It also looks to me that it was in a fire.

If that has been mercury dipped i would refrain from anymore buffet action of that savory morsel.

I hope you did not poison yourself.
