Hello all,

Carson here, country boy from Montana turned treasure hunter. I grew up metal detecting parks and beaches, prospecting gold with my grandpa, and having treasure-hunt themed birthday parties. Going back to day one, it's been an unparalleled passion in my life.

About one year ago, I decided to get serious about treasure hunting. I've gotten dive certified, dived some wrecks, and learned a lot about marine archaeology and salvage.

I wanted everyone's opinion. What country in today's day and age would be the best to find and recover treasure from shipwrecks in?

I was a bit disheartened to learn that many of the countries once most famous for treasure hunting have ratified UNESCO and do not allow for treasure concessions anymore on early Spanish galleons.

So I wanted to ask the opinion of any experienced and knowledgable treasure hunters on this site. What country would you recommend that is:

1. Relatively safe
2. Allows for treasure concession permits
3. Is rich in shipwreck history and galleons with treasure

Any country come to mind? I have read that Suriname could be a good candidate, anyone have experience down there?

I responded earlier, I have experience with Guyana, neighbor to Suriname. Not a friendly or safe place to operate. I has asked whether you had funding available or not. The reason for this because some countries require you have funding available before they issue contracts. You can go in steps or phases...survey phase and if you're lucky... salvage phase. I'm at a place in my life where I am so full of passion, energy, and ready to attack a promising project in the TH world.

I would love to introduce myself over email and tell you a little bit about the position that I'm in. The project you mentioned sounds like something I would love to spend some serious time on. Of course, I have so many questions. Regarding funding, I'm in a position where I could most likely show, or at least source whatever requirements the country needs for securing survey permits.

Carson welcome to a VERY FINE forum. WHen diving just remember to always carry at least one sharp knifw. Maybe 2 even

All I can say is, what ever country you choose, make damn sure you check the local maritime laws for that country. Most if not all have very strict treasure hunting requirements and laws. Once you step from dry sand into the water, regulations kick in.

I did not say why you should carry at least one sharp knife. Reason is there are way to many fishing lines and lures under water. The knife is to cout the line to get removed from it if you happen to get one stuck in you

Absolutely correct Gare. I dove for many years, usually alone and always had a knife on me just in case.
