Managed to get out for a bit, and hit a churchyard down the street, pulled out a lot of trash, and a few bucks in clad, then I hit the ring......Looked good coming out, I wiped the inside a bit and saw the 10k.......then I wiped a bit more.......and there was that awful letter.....P. :angry4: What a let down.....Anyway kept going and hit the Orleans Parish Sheriff (I think) collar pin. As I was about to go I dug that one last signal, and got the necklace. It looks like gold too, but both the pendant and chain are marked .925, so not gold, but I'll take the silver any day. Sorry the pic is so dark, not sure what's up with this camera.

The second pic is the find of the day......After the first site I decided to hit a vacant lot I'd had my eye on, first signal nearly blew my headphones off, and when I looked down I could just make out and edge.....Well I started digging, and digging and digging even more and by the time I was done I decided enough for today.....but it's ok, because I ended up with both sides of a cast iron park bench, and they're not broken at all......No idea how they survived there, but I'm not complaining. I washed them off a bit and dried them in the sun, (took about 10 minutes in this heat) :icon_sunny: I'll be cleaning them and building a bench soon, and will post pics of the process and the final product.......For now, my arms are sore, I need a shower, and I want a glass of sweet tea.......

Enjoy and HH to all

:icon_thumright: Those are some great finds and in this heat!

Cast iron park benches are from a kit available 15 years ago. I had one, supposed to have redwood slats to sit on, but they broke pretty quickly, and all that was left was the cast iron. Suppose I could make a garden sculpture out of 'em or something.

If the only markings on the ring are 10KP then it is in fact 10k gold. The P stands for plumb. 10KP means it is a full 10k as opposed to 10k which can be as low as 9.5karat.

Nice finds :icon_thumleft:

I'll have to look at those kit benches.....I have a feeling this one might be older based on where it was found, French Quarter area, and a lot that,s been empty for years.....but I don't know......Are there any kind of foundry marks on yours? I'll check mine after work tomorrow.

Nice Finds!
you beat my record of recovering one side of an old iron bench
Couldn't find the other half, but I just had to haul out the old metal.
Great Stuff

It's hard to find a wood that will stand up to the weather for any time, but there are a couple of choices that stand out; ironwood and teak.

Both pricey, but considering the work you'll have in it, worth it.

I made mine out of ironwood retrieved from a builder buddy who recycled it from a deck tear-off and got it for the favors I've done for the guy over the years.

The stuff will last for decades and has a fire rating of concrete.

Bum Luck, I was thinking about cypress, we have a lot of it here, and it's pretty common to salvage at demo jobs.

Never worked with it, but ought to work.

Nice thing about benches is you can get strips cheaper than whole boards.
